May 2018
Our Aistear theme for the month of May was 'Sports'. We explored this theme through lots of fun activities. We also made the most of the lovely summer sunshine by going on a nature walk, visiting the school's Biodiversity Area, playing sports and having reading lessons outside.
-
- We also explored ‘Light’ in science this month. We made shadow puppets and had lots of fun with them in the sunshine!
April 2018
This month's Aistear theme was 'The Doctor'. We had lots of fun exploring the important roles of doctors and nurses. We took turns dressing up and pretending to be doctors, nurses, surgeons, pharmacists and patients. At the construction station we got creative and built hospitals and doctor's surgeries out of blocks. We made our own doctor's bags/ first aid kits which contained equipment such as a stethoscope, otoscope, syringe and thermometer. We also wrote prescriptions and about our visits to the doctor. In the sand box we played a memory match game using pictures cards based on the theme of 'The Doctor'.
In April we also celebrated 'Healthy Eating Week'. We learned about the food pyramid and we had a visit from Mr. Apple and Mrs. Strawberry. We made a special effort to eat fruit and vegetables at home and in school. In school we tasted kiwis, blueberries, mandarin oranges and grapes. They were delicious! We also used fruit and vegetables for printing in our art lesson.

Happy New Year! We have had another busy month preparing for Mrs Cronin's retirement mass. We will miss her so much but hopefully she will call back to visit us from time to time! Our Aistear theme was 'The Weather'.
December 2017
December was a busy month. We were preparing for the Tree of Light. Our Aistear theme was the Post Office and we also did lots of fun Christmas activities. We had a visit from a little elf named Eddie who came all the way from the North Pole to keep an eye on us in the lead up to Christmas. While he was in our classroom he often got up to mischief!! Luckily he confirmed before he left that we are all on the 'Good List'.
-
- Poor Rudolph wasn’t feeling too well. Luckily Mrs Claus and the doctor managed to nurse him back to full health in time for Christmas Eve.
November 2017
In November we went to see 'The Ugly Duckling' in Siamsa Tíre, Tralee. It was very enjoyable and we loved travelling in the big bus! We also began Aistear. We explored the theme of 'The Restaurant' which was so much fun.

"I think I'll go for the chocolate cake and a cup of tea please!"

We got creative and built our own restaurants. Some of them had amazing play areas!
